Dr. Duke began working as a veterinary assistant at North Center Animal Hospital in 1993 while she concurrently completed her undergraduate preveterinary courses. She attended veterinary school in Urbana from 1996 to 2000, afterward returning to North Center to work as an associate veterinarian.
Dr. Duke works extensively with dogs and cats and also has a special interest in exotic animals such as birds, reptiles and small mammals. Dr. Duke has also worked part-time at Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital in Skokie for the past four years where she has gained extensive experience with these unusual and complicated animals. In addition, Dr. Duke is the veterinarian for Experiencia, an educational company that delivers immersive learning programs to children through a program called Earth Works which houses approximately 145 exotic animals at their site in Chicago. Also, Dr. Duke is the veterinarian for seven Chicagoland PetCo stores. She makes regular on-site visits to Earth Works and the PetCo stores to provide medical and husbandry support.
When she is not working, Dr. Duke is an avid fitness enthusiast, currently participating in morning workouts on Chicago's lakefront in a program called Bulldog Bootcamp. She is also involved in yoga as well as swimming and tennis programs.
Dr. Duke has a Pomeranian puppy named Gidgit, two cats named Baby and Pip, two turtles named Heidi and SpongeBob, and an English Budgie named Horus. SpongeBob lives in the waiting room at North Center and Horus lives in the reception area, except on the weekends when he travels home with Dr. Duke.
Dr. Duke enjoys her work as a veterinarian immensely. It is her greatest joy and her goal at work to see a pet and owner travel through the years together, going from juvenile to adult to senior citizen happily and in good health.
