Another Acupuncture Success Story
Carol Ramsden’s cat Scirocco is another one of our acupuncture patients! He’s a very good boy and has had such good results. Here’s what Carol told us:
“Over the past couple of years, I noticed that my cat Scirocco, who’s now 15, began having trouble climbing up onto the couch, going up and down stairs, and otherwise not tolerating the other cats trying to play with him. He was diagnosed as having arthritis.
Recently, his limping became more pronounced and he began to have muscle spasms where he would lie on the floor crying and writhing in pain. I was frantic and didn’t know what to do to alleviate his pain! I brought him in to North Center Animal Hospital and saw Dr. Elwood. I discussed with her my concerns about his pain management, but wanted to know if there was there were any non-pharmaceutical options, like chiropractic or acupuncture that she knew of. Imagine my surprise and relief when she informed that she did acupuncture on pets! I scheduled Scirocco for the next available appointment. I wasn’t sure how well he would handle it, but he was a trooper! If fact, he purred during the whole session!
I have brought him in several times since his first visit and it has made a great improvement in his quality of life. There’s no cure for his arthritis, but he is much more mobile and able to climb up and down stairs and onto furniture. The frequency of the spasms have diminished as the frequency of his visits increased. I am so thrilled and grateful that North Center Animal Hospital provides this excellent service and recommend it as a holistic addition to any other treatments prescribed for a pet.”

George Edmonds is a pug that has been receiving acupuncture treatments with Dr. Ellwood for several months. This is what his Mom, Joanne, had to say:
“George is 11 years old; he has lived with us since he was 7 weeks old. When we adopted George, we also had a “mature” golden retriever named Abby. It was love at first sight for both of them; Abby helped raise George.
George’s favorite things are playing with our grandchildren; sitting in laps; snuggling with Henry, his brother, who is also a pug; and of course eating. Pugs LOVE to eat, so keeping George fit and trim is a challenge. Besides his regular dog food, he loves cheese treats. Actually, there’s probably nothing he wouldn’t eat if given the opportunity.
Although George has remained a puppy at heart, he has had trouble with his back legs because of age and arthritis. Since starting acupuncture, however, he is much perkier and more agile. My husband and I notice a real difference: He goes up and down stairs faster, has higher leg lifts, and is quicker to initiate play with Henry. His quality of life has definitely improved, and when I tell him he’s going to go see Dr. Ellwood, he runs to the front door and wags his tail.”
We are so happy that George is doing well and has a better quality of life with the help of acupuncture!
One of our assistants, Gina, also takes her cat to see Dr. Ellwood for acupuncture treatments. This is what she had to say:
“Dutchess is 16 years young. She lives with her sister kitty and 3 brother kitties. She was definitely feeling the effects of old age, appearing achy when getting up and walking stiff-legged most of the time. She’s a super chill patient so we’ve started her on acupuncture. I have noticed even though we’ve only been doing this about a month, she has increased her playing time and jumps more than before. She is definitely the alpha cat in charge and I think she feels better she can keep up with her younger siblings.”
